Separated Child – Collect for unaccompanied young refugees

Imagine having to flee your homeland because of war, terror or persecution. Imagine being a child or a young person. Imagine not having your parents with you because they were killed before you left or were unable to leave. Imagine arriving in a strange country, seeking asylum, completely alone. Imagine having absolutely nothing. Separated children and young people experience the double trauma of separation not only from their homeland, culture and natural environment but also from the adults in their family who gave them care. The Separated Child Foundation offers emotional, social, financial and physical support to separated children and young people in Britain up to the age of 21. It also engages in educational activities that raise awareness of their needs and encourage positive responses to them.

The Arrival Packs Project

We aim to give every separated child an Arrival Pack, which provides essentials for living a safe, healthy and dignified life: a duffle bag full of toiletries, suitable clothing and other basics. All the items in an Arrival Pack have been donated or bought with donations. Since we started this project, we’ve provided about 16,000 packs to separated children — and we expect to give out 3,500 this year. That’s why we need your help! We are looking for donations of the following items. Please only send them to us if they’re new or in tip-top condition. • waterproof jackets/macs/cagoules suitable for teenage boys (new or pristine) • plug-in night-lights (main powered; new only) • warm gloves (new or pristine) • warm hats (new or pristine) • underpants suitable for teenage boys (new only) • toothpaste (new only) • toothbrush (new only) • shampoo (new only) • deodorant (new only) Don’t be tempted to send other types of goods—please ask us first. With your help we can bring some much-needed comfort to those who need it most.
